thereto I have to report for the information of the Governor, that I think the sentence awarded was not greater than the offence demanded _but at the same time I have no hesitation in saying that the Prisoners recently, believed that they were justified in resisting as they did - and that it certainly is true that the evidence on which they were convicted was furnished by themselves.
The Prisoners are, it appears, of a somewhat high caste, and in their estimation imprisonment is regarded as a more severe punishment than it would appear to Europeans, and knowing, as I do, that it is impossible to carry out the sentence in the Gaol of this Colony, and at the same time to reject the strong feeling of caste, I
